I have a wonderful artist to introduce you to today - Karen Young of Loose Petals!
I've admired Karen's work from afar in Etsy for a long time now so it's just lovely to have her here for this week's Illustration Crush! It's probably easy to see why I love her work. It's bright coloured with clean lines and it involves geography! It's so fun to go through her pieces and think "I've been there!" or "I want to go there!"
Karen is inspired mostly by her own travels around the world, combined with retro poster art, European ephemera, vintage Japanese design and the Bauhaus era. Stunning work, don't you agree?
All the one's I've chosen to share with you are special to me because they are places I have been to. This is one reason I love these so much - if you had it on your wall, every glance would bring back a happy travel memory! I hope that one day I can add more of her beautiful art to my "been to" list!
You can follow Karen on Facebook and see her progress as she aims to add 100 new cities to her collection this year! That's some serious drawing coming up! Also don't forget to browse the current collection on Etsy!
I hope she does Hobart one day..... what city would you most like to see in Karen's wonderful style?

These are gorgeous, she captures the spirit of each place SO well. It freaks me out what is possible in Illustrator. Would love to learn, one day.
ReplyDeleteI agree.... wouldn't it be amazing to collect these as you travel the world! I find illustrator a complete mystery - one day I would like to learn but I'm much happier with a pen and paper I think!
ReplyDeleteYou are right! These are stunning. I would love to have some of these on my walls. Wonder if she has a Cape Town one. I think that would be a cool one to have.
ReplyDeleteCape Town is such a pretty city - it would be great! She has a list of what she's done and what's coming soon on her Etsy About page - maybe she has it!
