Introducing My First Book - A Compendium Of Collective Nouns!

Have you ever dreamt about writing a book?

I have. Most of my life. I always thought I would actually write a book, but as it turns out, I have drawn one instead!

It's no secret that I have a deep love for that curious component of the English language - the collective noun. It's a fascination shared with many, I know, as I have literally had hundreds of conversations about them with customers at my market stall and friends online.

So, it probably comes as no surprise to anyone that the book I have drawn is about collective nouns. In fact, it's a collection of collective nouns!

Introducing my first book!

A Compendium of Collective Nouns by Jennifer Skelly (aka Red Parka)

Featuring 50 full page, full colour original illustrations, this book is a collection of artwork I have done over the last three years. In fact, I am still working on it! But, I decided it was time to stop dreaming about publishing a book and just do it!

I set myself a deadline (26th September to be exact) and by this date, my book will be out there for the world to see! Exciting, isn't it?

Want to know some of the ones included? Here's just a few to whet your appetite....

An Ambush of Tigers
A Squadron of Pelicans
A Gulp of Swallows
A Bouquet of Hummingbirds
A Shiver of Sharks

I could go on..... but I won't! You'll have to get the book!

Publishing a book, especially a full colour, hard cover illustrated one like this, is an expensive business. So I decided to crowdfund it! And I'd LOVE your help!

I'm running my project through Pozible, an Australian crowdfunding platform, that helps Australian artists and other creative folk get support for their projects, enabling them to turn dreams into reality! It's a wonderful system because the artist stays in complete control of the project and their supporters are essentially just buying in advance.

I have set up a fabulous system of rewards for your support - for example, if you pledge $30 to my project, you'll receive a copy of the finished book in the mail, signed by me, along with some Red Parka cards, which totals over $30 in real value. So by helping me make one of my creative dreams come true, you get a super good deal in exchange. Cool, huh?

You can browse the rewards, from $5 through to $300, on the site here. But you can contribute any amount starting from $1 (no rewards for this, but you will get an email from me telling you how awesome you are for helping me out!!)
These little guys will be featured in the book - A Parliament Of Owls!

ATTENTION BLOGGERS + INDIE BIZ OWNERS!
I have created a special reward for my blogging + indie biz friends who may be interested in promoting their blog and/or shop instead - contribute $25 to the project and you get 6 months of large ad space on my blog (plus a feature post all about you!), which normally would cost $60! There's only 10 of these available (2 have already been snapped up) so be quick if you wanna take advantage of this!

If you're feeling strapped for cash, then you can just go to my sponsor page and grab a small ad for $2.50 (instead of $5) for a month using the code BOOKFUND. Until the end of my fundraising campaign on 23rd July, all sponsor money will be going directly into the book fund as well - every little bit helps!

In total, I am seeking $5000 in funding to make this a reality and crowd funding works so your money is only withdrawn if the project reaches it's goal - therefore there is no risk you'll spend your hard earned cash on a project that isn't going to eventuate.

So that's the deal folks!

Wanna get your hands on a copy of my first book, signed and delivered to your door anywhere in the world? Then click here, read up on the project and the rewards on offer and do what you can.

Thanks so much for your support - it means the world to me!!

Immense gratitude from your favourite dreamer and schemer,
Jen xo

P.S. If you like the project, please consider sharing this post with your friends to help me spread the word. You can also directly tweet or share on facebook from the project page.
