Illustration Crush - Rachael Speirs

When I first stumbled across Rachael Speirs' work on Pinterest I was enamoured with her figure drawings and the beautiful use of colour. Upon further research I discovered not only was Rachael a talented illustrator but she also creates amazing works using fabric and embroidery as well.

I especially love the girl wrapped in a blanket - this was the original image I saw on Pinterest and I never seem to tire from looking at it.

Rachael's work is very earthy and has a sense of magic and mystery surrounding it. Her figures are simple yet evokative and the quotes she uses in some of her fabric pieces are quirky and perfectly fitting.

These are two of Rachael's fabric + embroidery pieces, entitled Ghosts (left) and The Grapes Of Wrath (right).

If you don't know Rachael's work I highly recommend spending some time browsing her website and checking out more of this fascinating artist's creations.

Now I am thoroughly inspired to get to work and finish my newest drawing before flying to Adelaide tomorrow for the Bowerbird Bazaar!

Have a wonderful day! Jen x

P.S. Today is the 1st May which means it;s now Pinterest month in my Year of Marketing, so it's appropriate that we've started the month with an illustrator I discovered through Pinterest. Are you on Pinterest? If so, check out more wonderful artists on my Pinterest boards and let me know in the comments who you are on Pinterest so I can check out your boards too! x

  1. Rachael's illustrations are beautiful! I always admire illustrators who can incorporate other elements - using fabric and embroidery is genius.
