Today I am excited to welcome Laura from La Caseta de Paper to Red Parka to introduce me (and you!) to the concept of artist's trading cards, which I had not heard of before - sounds like a fun idea! Over to you, Laura!
------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys :) My name is Laura, and I blog at La Caseta de Paper. I’m very excited to guest post here at Red Parka, thanks so much for this opportunity Jen :)
I’m also very excited about the topic of the post: Artist Trading Cards (also called ATCs). ATCs are small pieces of art, created to be swapped or given to somebody. That’s important: you don’t buy ATCs, you can only get them as a gift or through a swap, that’s one of the characteristics of it, and part of what makes them so special.
ATCs always measure 2.5x3.5 inches. The size is not random, since ATCs have its origin on the original collectible Sports Trading Cards. ATCs can be part of a series, or just one-off, and they can be made using any technique: drawing, collage, scrapbooking, painting, or even sewing. On the back of the ATC the artist write the title of the ATC, the name of the artist (sometimes also the email address), and the date when it was created.
I’ve been collecting them for a while now, and these are a few of the ATCs I scanned from my collection:
(by Katarina Navane )
(by Emma)
(by Savvyshare)
(by Keri Steele)
(by Margo)
(by Emma)
(by me, I'm still a newbie making them, but I love it)
I hope if you didn't know about ATCs, this post will inspire you to create some, it's really fun! Personally I swap them on Swap-Bot, but there's plenty of places on the Internet where people create them, share them, and swap them.
Have a great weekend, and thanks so much for reading this post!

ReplyDeleteI've never heard of these!! I'm not really an artist so perhaps thats why. I can probably glue yarn to a card. Thats so cool to collect them from all over the place.
