This weekend is the biggest art + craft event on the Tasmanian calendar - The Tasmanian Craft Fair. In fact, it's actually the biggest working craft fair in Australia, which is pretty damn cool seeing as we are the little island state and we don't have the 'biggest' anything in a country where everything is pretty big!
The event is in a small town called Deloraine (pop.3100), which is a typically quaint and beautiful Tasmania town. The craft fair operates in 12 different venues around the town (you can get around on the free shuttle bus), over four days, with over 230 exhibitors - I think about half of these are Tasmanian but people come from all over the Australia for this!
Consequently, I have been ridiculously busy getting organised, trying to finish new work for the show and packaging at a rate of knots! It's all coming together (two days to go!) and I am getting both nervous and excited. I love this event! Over the last two years it's been my most lucrative event of the year and it's also on my home turf. Every year I run to so many people I know, people I went to school with, lots of my parents friends.... the fair is held in a small town about 30 minutes from where I grew up so I also get to stay with my Mum and Dad who take good care of me while I work and who are also fabulously generous in hosting a little tribe of my creative Melbourne friends who travel down to Tassie for the show. It's a lot of fun!
Anyway, here's a sneak peek at a couple of my new designs that will be for sale for the first time this weekend!
And to my Tasmanian readers - are you coming?? It's gonna be huge! The Red Parka stall is in the Community Complex at Venue 5. Right next to the Gourmet Pantry! I hope to see you there!
