This amazing looking book Drawing from the City
by Teju Behan has my illustrator's heart absolutely pounding - isn't it amazing? It's the partly autobiographical, coming of age story of an Indian woman trapped between unimaginable poverty and her wild, imaginative inner world in a patriachal society. This one is definitely going on the wishlist!
Interesting photos by Kim Preston to raise awareness of the Pacific Garbage Dump. Kim has photographed common rubbish items (plastic bags, straws etc) in an ocean setting but made them look like the sea creatures they are in fact choking to death. It's awful to think of all that rubbish out there - apparently it's the size of Texas! It's frightening what we do to our planet.
I like this photo. It's weird and cute and apparently doesn't exist anymore - the story was that a German guy built this as a shelter for his horses because he wasn't able to get a permit to build a proper one but found there were no laws against giant furniture, but it turns out this was made up because it's a good story!
I am absolutely astounded by nature when I see these photos of snowflakes by Russian photographer Andrew Osokin. It actually blows my mind that something so incredibly intricate and perfect and beautiful is just a part of nature! Wow. Just amazing.
And finally, I really love this pendant by Nanna Woo! I'm not a big jewellery wearer but this is totally my style.
